High pressure Mist Cooling is
one of the most effective, and efficient, methods available
for cooling open outdoor areas. Misting Systems have been
used worldwide for cooling hotel, resort, restaurant
and bar outdoor seating areas, backyards and patios, as well as
event cooling and sports sidelines. They are also used in a
multitude of harsh industrial, construction, manufacturing
and agricultural settings for climate control,
humidification and dust suppression.
Mist
Cooling works by forcing water through specially designed
misting nozzles to create a fog of ultra fine water
droplets. The general rule in the Misting Industry is the
higher the pressure the smaller the droplets and the faster
the evaporation. For example, a High-Pressure Misting System
that produces between 800 and 1200 psi utilizes a process called
‘flash evaporation’, which occurs when the High-Pressure Misting is
forced out through nozzles with very small orifices, around
the size of hair on your head. It creates a very fine mist
that results in a significant
drop in temperature without wetness.
A common misconception is that misting is meant to get you
all wet to cool you off. Rather, the tiny droplets or fog,
quickly evaporate, cooling the surrounding air. Properly
designed, a mist cooling system will work with prevailing
winds and air movement, and are often combined with fans to
move mist or cooled air into the cooled zones. Mist cooling
can reduce the temperature up to 30 degrees Fahrenheit in
very dry climates. And, it can still perform quite
effectively even in very humid climates, often reducing
temperatures by as much as 15-25 degrees by employing fans
to facilitate evaporation.
High
Pressure Misting is a very effective & efficient
way to cool down large areas - even in high humidity climates.
Misting & Humidity
Another common misconception is that in a high humidity
environment misting only adds to the humidity. But in fact,
with the use of the correct size mist
nozzles, nozzle & mist line placement, pump size and the
correct use of misting fans, we can cool down almost any area
as much as 25 degreeswithout getting anyone wet. This is
because we have the capability of producing such a fine mist
droplet that it evaporates almost immediately even in the
most humid conditions.
So whether you live in the dryness of the Southwest states
or the 80% humidity of South Louisiana, we can keep you cool &
dry with the correct use of the best misting equipment &
installers in the area.
By forcing water through our
specially designed misting nozzles, we create a fog of ultra
fine water droplets with an average size of 50 microns or
less.
These tiny water droplets quickly absorb the energy (heat)
present in the environment and evaporate, becoming water
vapor (gas). The energy (heat) used to change the water to a
gas is eliminated from the environment, hence the air is
cooled.
Relative humidity is the
amount of moisture in the air compared to the amount of
moisture the air could absorb at the same temperature, is a
crucial factor in determining cooling potential. The lower
the relative humidity, the more water can be vaporized, and
the more heat can be removed.
Evaporative Cooling can be
used effectively in most geographical locations. This is
because when temperatures reach their peak during the day,
humidity is normally at its lowest point.

Indoor/Outdoor Cooling
The
ability to cool outdoor areas depends on one major factor -
the wind. With either light wind or no wind you can achieve
some remarkable results depending on temperature and
humidity . Cooling outdoor areas is
relatively straight forward and can be broken into 2
different types:
Athletic and
Amusement Cooling
In this type of cooling, the people don't mind getting
damp, and more often then not prefer to. Generally, fans
are placed at head height, so people can stand directly
in front of the fan.
Restaurant/Factories/Hospitality
When cooling a large area where the people don't want to
notice the moisture. The fan(s) should be set at their
highest level with the fan, aimed slightly above the
horizon with the oscillation set to match the area being
cooled. If possible place the fan 10-20' behind the area
to be cooled. This will allow the cooled air to settle
and keep the units sound from being bothersome.
Indoor Cooling
When cooling indoor areas, it
is important to remember that you will need to take
advantage of any natural flow of air. You can check for
existing ventilation by turning on the mist without the fan
on and watch where the mist goes. You will also need to
determine your source of outside air and where your outlet
for the air is. Very often the outlet will be a door or a
window on the opposite side of the structure from the inlet
air.
